The rhetoric of those who advocate for strict gun control is filled with charges of racism directed at those who believe in the right to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self defense.

The Sullivan Law in New York, which is one of the oldest laws aimed at depriving people of their second amendment rights was aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of Italian and other European immigrants including Jews and East Europeans. It was passed in 1911. If one were wealthy one could obtain a carry permit. If you were poor or a member of a minority group you could not.
California’s harsh gun control laws were first aimed at disarming the Black Panther Party For Self Defense. When Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party they took their inspiration from Robert F. Williams and the Deacons for Self Defense. The Deacons for Self Defense were active in the South during the Civil Rights Movement when Civil Rights workers were being lynched and murdered.
Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership has a long history of pointing out the racist nature of gun control and how so many of the measures are aimed at keeping minorities and the poor disarmed and vulnerable.
